By dad
Early 1980’s
What is now is gone too soon,
For as you read these lies,
The clock ticks on and never stops
And marks the hours with solid chimes.
Again a year snaps up on you
To mark that perfect day
When air first filled your tiny lungs
As in warm arms you lay.
Then come and go as all things must
You grew and had your trials
And ups and downs and candy bars
And many tears and smiles
Every tear and every smile
Now means so much to me.
As you look back it seems so long
Though really the years are few.
And now ahead is stretched a road
It goes so very far.
And you may travel all you may
With time your only guard.
